SOUPY SUNDAY CROSS COUNTRY

marty and i did a 24 mile X/C from no-po to no-plains! it was really fun, and unique! we launched in about 39 degree weather, foggy and moist, the motors barely made enough thrust to launch. full throttle and only 100 fpm climb. as we passes 2000 feet (finally!) the temp rose to seemingly 70 degrees! i was considering removing my gloves as i was uncomfortably warm. so to take my mind of the sweating i decided to do a fat spiral and as i did my motor quit. then it would not start.

beautiful portland in the misty background

i knew i was close to the landing area but it was obscured by a thick fog. i couldnt mess around too much while loosing altitude rapidly so i found a hole in the fog a a farmes field was presented to me. it was a suitable landing area so i took it.

marty followed me and landed there also, what a great wingman! oh this disapproving look on his face was'nt disapproval, it was just the funny face mask i think.

Its been windy here, every day. The vicious cycle continues. Wind in morning, wind at evening, calm at night. If we could just fly at 11-6 am we would be getting tons of airtime. But this is frowned upon and we are good boys and girls!
BURNING MAN 2008 FLIGHT REPORT

Burning man went off this year, with a sold out crowd of 50,000! Art, community, dust, alcohol. Met a french ppg pilot there maned Lionel who had the misfortune of being in the LZ just in time to catch me landing naked.

Strangely, he seemed surprised! The thermals over the dry lakebed were not strong, and the air was quite pleasant despite my assumption that it would be scary booming desert conditions by 8 am each day. It was sweet!

When not flying we wandered around looking like a camel.

Well the facts are simple. Oregon rules big time. This time it is me - Gazcheck editing the blog, so please do not wonder why it "sounds" different.

When Gabe arrived at the beach, Steve (our newest air corps member) and I were already airborne and headin' towards the point.

I left the camera with Sabine, she took this awesome picture when Steve and myself were heading back towards the LZ

It looks like formations flight, but it is quite a piece away. It is recomendable for the second pilot to stay above the propwash of the first PPG.

we definitely had some attention - well some recogniezed the WeOwnTheSkies Team from the Oregon Air Show!

Awesome Shot!

Flying with Steve for the first time was great fun. He is an awesome pilot and even without radio we managed intuitively to position ourselfs for quite impressive video shots.

After landing - questions; answers;questions; answers;questions; answers;questions; answers;questions; answers;questions; answers;questions; answers;questions; answers;questions; answers;questions; answers; :-) but this is what we like and do! We enjoy sharing this hobby with people. But as I think about it ...the next time we should have some flyers with us....

The gascan is heavy....

A shot with my SLR during the evening flight. The wind picked up quite significantly, and I had some trouble with my cameras trapped to me. So I landed after 20 minutes. Gabe and Steve still remained just cruzin' for a while. Gabe took even quite a climb and captured some awesome footage.

Steve landing!

HOT SUNDAY

Very muggy today and the weather is hot, thunder heads forming here and there, but not right here, so, LETS LAUNCH!!
Oh man was it sweet! 85 degrees, almost zero wind, smooth gust-free air. We made a circle around the lakes, I stayed high since my motor has been a bit off lately, and I have been too lazy/stupid to figure it out. I need to this weekend for sure. We launched from a new site that new member Steve found and secured. Very nice lady owns it and was happy to have us launch. She recognized me from the TV! She was too nice and her field will see plenty of use in the next months!

oh yes how could I forget, while traveling to the flying field Martin "Blaszczzek", Media Developer and team pilot for the WEOWNTHESKIES team, had a certain problem with his gas cap on his PAP. It was off. He has earned himself a flight nickname, GASCHECK. Please, for the next few weeks while everything is drying out, NO SKOKING around Mr. Gas-check.
